Palace Criticised Over McNeil Transfer Collapse

Football

Crystal Palace faced criticism from Dwight McNeil's partner after the Everton winger's proposed £20m transfer collapsed on deadline day.

Dwight McNeil's partner, Megan Sharpley, has criticised Crystal Palace following the collapse of his proposed £20 million transfer from Everton. Sharpley accused Palace of "toying" with the winger's mental health after the deal failed on deadline day.

McNeil, 26, had travelled to London and completed a medical for the loan move, which included an obligation to buy. A deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League, allowing extra time to finalise paperwork for the four-and-a-half-year contract.

However, Palace reportedly ceased communication, moving from "everything to radio silence" and leaving McNeil "in the dark" as the transfer fell through without explanation. Sharpley highlighted the emotional toll on players, stating that high wages do not justify such treatment. McNeil reposted his partner's comments, affirming his commitment to Everton. Everton sources indicated they fulfilled their obligations, but Palace's paperwork was not finalised in time.
