Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen believes Michael Carrick is the ideal candidate for the permanent managerial position.

Michael Owen said he cannot understand why observers question Michael Carrick as a potential permanent manager for Manchester United. Speaking to media, Owen stated that Carrick possesses the respect of the staff and players at Old Trafford. The former England forward noted that the Middlesbrough manager understands the culture of the club from his 15-year association as a player and coach. Owen suggested that everyone at the club loves him, making him a natural fit for the role.

Carrick previously served as a first-team coach under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also oversaw three matches as caretaker manager in 2021, remaining unbeaten during that period. Owen argued that Carrick has proven his tactical ability during his subsequent tenure in the Championship. According to Sky Sports, Carrick has earned plaudits for his style of play and player development since moving into management. Owen remains convinced that the 44-year-old represents a low-risk appointment for the Premier League side, per The Guardian.
