O'Neill fears for Celtic and Rangers away fan numbers

Former Celtic manager Martin O'Neill expressed concern that larger away fan allocations for Old Firm matches may not return.

Martin O'Neill shared his disappointment regarding the ongoing dispute over away ticket allocations between Celtic and Rangers. The former manager stated he is saddened that a return to significant visiting crowds at Parkhead and Ibrox might not occur, according to Sky Sports. The two Glasgow clubs have operated with reduced or zero away fans in recent seasons due to safety and ticketing disagreements.

Celtic currently lead the Scottish Premiership table by two points over Rangers, though their rivals hold a game in hand, per the SPFL. O'Neill noted the unique atmosphere of the derby relied on the presence of both sets of supporters. He suggested the current impasse harms the spectacle of the fixture, as reported by The Guardian.

SPFL rules previously mandated a reasonable allocation for visiting teams, but recent matches saw only a few hundred fans or total exclusions. O'Neill believes the chance to restore the traditional 7,000-seat allocation is fading.
