Newcastle United is taking action after a young club mascot was left unattended on the pitch before Saturday's match at Liverpool.

Newcastle United is investigating an incident where a young club mascot was left alone on the pitch before Saturday's Premier League match against Liverpool. The event took place at Anfield prior to Newcastle's 4-1 defeat to Arne Slot's side. Footage circulated online showed the young girl, who was the club's mascot for the game, standing by herself in the centre circle after the players had moved away for pre-match preparations and the traditional handshake. Newcastle captain Kieran Trippier had led the team out with the mascot onto the pitch. The video also showed Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk with his side's mascots on the opposite side of the pitch. The club has since pledged to "put things right" and is looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Newcastle United Supporters Trust confirmed on Monday that the club is aware of the situation and is addressing it, with action being taken.
