Morocco was prepared to host the Women's Africa Cup of Nations this month, according to a senior government official. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) previously rescheduled the tournament to take place from 5 July to 26 July 2025. This decision moved the competition away from its original window in 2024, per Reuters.
Mustapha Baitas, a spokesperson for the Moroccan government, stated the nation was ready to organise the event regardless of the date. He noted that the country's infrastructure remains prepared for the 12-team tournament. The delay allows the competition to avoid a direct clash with the new 32-team Fifa Club World Cup, according to The Guardian.
South Africa entered the tournament as defending champions after they defeated Morocco 2-1 in the 2022 final. Morocco remains the host for the upcoming edition, marking the second consecutive time the north African nation has held the event. Caf officials cited the congested international football calendar as the primary reason for the rescheduling, per Reuters.
