National League club Morecambe have confirmed a winding-up petition has been filed against the company, citing a delay in its sale.

Morecambe Football Club has confirmed a winding-up petition was filed against the company on March 24. The National League side released a statement explaining the legal action follows a delay in the sale of the club. The board of directors stated it is working to resolve the situation and remains in contact with the relevant authorities, according to The Guardian.

The Shrimps currently sit 21st in the National League table following their recent relegation from the Football League. The club has faced persistent financial uncertainty under the ownership of Bond Group Investments. Per Sky Sports, the owners have been seeking a buyer for over two years. Fans have previously protested against the current ownership regarding unpaid wages and tax bills.

The club remains hopeful that a change in ownership will be completed to secure its long-term future. A hearing date for the petition has not yet been made public. Morecambe staff and players were informed of the development on Wednesday morning, per reports from the Press Association.
