Manchester Jewish community leaders have criticised Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola for repeatedly commenting on international affairs. The Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester & Region stated that City is being "let down" by his remarks.
Guardiola recently spoke about the Middle East conflict, referring to "genocide in Palestine" at a Barcelona charity event and during a press conference in Manchester. He also mentioned conflicts in Ukraine, Russia, and Sudan, stating that the suffering of innocent people "hurts" him and compels him to speak out.
The Council urged Guardiola to be "more careful with his future language" given the risks faced by their community. They also accused him of a "total failure" to show solidarity with the local Jewish community following an attack on Heaton Park Synagogue last October. Guardiola has maintained his stance is about defending human life, not partisan politics.
