Stevenage manager Alex Revell and Norwich City coach Ryan Garry have shared their views on the future of data and AI in football.

Revell and Garry discussed the evolving role of technology during a recent talk regarding the next decade of the sport. The Stevenage manager noted that while data provides essential insights, the human element remains vital for player management. He stated that statistics help coaches understand physical limits, but emotional intelligence is required to maintain squad morale, according to Stevenage FC.

Garry, who works as a first-team coach at Norwich City, highlighted the potential for artificial intelligence to streamline tactical analysis. He suggested that AI might eventually predict injury risks with higher accuracy, allowing for personalised training regimes. This shift aims to protect player welfare amidst increasingly congested fixture calendars, per Norwich City.

Both coaches agreed that the volume of information available to clubs will continue to grow. However, they emphasised that the primary challenge for future managers involves filtering this data to avoid overwhelming players. The discussion concluded that while tools change, the core principles of coaching and man-management remain constant.
