A Greek court reduced the suspended prison sentence of Harry Maguire to 15 months following a retrial on Wednesday. The Manchester United defender previously appealed against a 2020 conviction for assault and attempted bribery after an incident on the island of Mykonos. The Syros appeals court handed down the new sentence, which remains suspended for three years, according to Sky Sports.
Maguire was not present for the hearing in Syros but had legal representation during the proceedings. The 33-year-old centre-back always maintained his innocence regarding the charges brought by local authorities. The original sentence from the initial trial in August 2020 was 21 months and 10 days, per Reuters.
Manchester United currently occupy eighth place in the Premier League table after 27 matches. The club released a statement noting the conclusion of the legal process. Maguire has made 18 league appearances for United during the 2025-26 campaign, according to the Premier League. The verdict concludes a legal saga that lasted more than five years.
