Luiz open to Villa return as Emery reignites interest

Football

Aston Villa have opened talks with Juventus over a loan deal to re-sign former midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Aston Villa are in active discussions with Juventus regarding a potential loan move for former midfielder Douglas Luiz. Manager Unai Emery aims to strengthen his midfield options. This follows recent injuries to key players Boubacar Kamara, who is out for the season, and fitness concerns for John McGinn and Youri Tielemans. Luiz, currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Serie A club Juventus, is reportedly open to rejoining his former club. The Brazilian international spent five seasons at Villa Park between 2019 and 2024, making 204 appearances before his move to Juventus for around £43m. His current loan agreement with Nottingham Forest includes conditions for a permanent transfer, complicating any potential return to Villa. A deal would require all three clubs – Aston Villa, Juventus, and Nottingham Forest – to agree to terminate his existing loan spell. Reports indicate Chelsea are also monitoring the 27-year-old midfielder's situation, adding further competition for his signature.
