Liverpool must pay Chelsea an initial £2.8 million for the transfer of teenage winger Rio Ngumoha, a Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) tribunal has ruled. The 17-year-old joined Liverpool from Chelsea's academy in September 2024, having spent nine years developing at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea was entitled to compensation for Ngumoha's training and development costs.
The compensation package could increase by a further £4 million, potentially reaching £6.8 million in total. This additional sum depends on performance-related add-ons, including senior appearances, future contracts, and England honours. Furthermore, Chelsea will receive 20 percent of any profit if Liverpool sells the player in the future.
Ngumoha signed his first professional contract with Liverpool in September 2025. He has since made 13 first-team appearances this season, scoring on his Premier League debut against Newcastle United. He became Liverpool's youngest goalscorer at 16 years and 361 days old.
