Liverpool are in discussions to sign Dutch defender Lutsharel Geertruida on loan from Sunderland before Monday's transfer deadline.

Liverpool are holding talks to secure the services of Lutsharel Geertruida, currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig. The Premier League club aims to bring the Dutch international to Anfield for the remainder of the season, with the transfer deadline approaching on Monday evening.

Geertruida, a 25-year-old versatile defender, can operate as a right-back, centre-back, or defensive midfielder. He has been spending the current campaign with Sunderland in the Championship, on loan from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Geertruida previously played under Liverpool manager Arne Slot during their time at Feyenoord.

Reports indicate that Liverpool have reached a full agreement on personal terms with Geertruida. Discussions are ongoing with both Sunderland and his parent club RB Leipzig to finalise the deal. Sunderland would reportedly require a replacement before allowing his departure from the Stadium of Light. Manager Arne Slot hinted at strengthening the squad after Liverpool's recent 4-1 Premier League win against Newcastle United.
