Lincoln City secure promotion to the Championship

Lincoln City have reached the second tier of English football for the first time in over 60 years after securing a promotion spot.

Lincoln City secured their place in the Championship for the 2026-27 season. The Imps achieved the feat following a period of steady growth under the ownership of Clive Nates. The club previously played in the fifth tier as recently as 2017 before winning the National League title.

Promotion marks a significant milestone in a 20-year journey that included the management of Keith Alexander and a successful period under Danny and Nicky Cowley. The Cowleys led the club to the FA Cup quarter-finals and the League Two title in 2019, according to Sky Sports.

Lincoln City had not competed at this level since the 1960-61 campaign. The current squad, managed by Michael Skubala, maintained a consistent run of form throughout the season to confirm their top-two finish in League One. The achievement follows a 10th-place finish in the previous campaign, as reported by The Guardian. The club will now prepare for its first Championship fixture in August.
