Joan Laporta has won the Barcelona presidential election to begin a fourth term in charge of the Catalan club. He defeated rival candidates after members cast their votes on Sunday, according to reports from Spain. The result grants the 63-year-old a mandate to lead the organisation for another five years.
Laporta previously served as president from 2003 to 2010 and returned for a third term in 2021. During his victory speech, he vowed that the club would be "unstoppable" during his new tenure. He emphasised the need to maintain financial stability while remaining competitive at the highest level of European football, per ESPN.
The president faces immediate tasks regarding the first-team squad and the ongoing redevelopment of the Nou Camp stadium. Barcelona currently sit in the top three of La Liga as they pursue domestic silverware. Laporta told supporters that the board will continue to prioritise the development of homegrown talent from the La Masia academy, according to Mundo Deportivo.
