Middlesbrough head coach Kim Hellberg has detailed his transition from a physical education teacher to a professional football manager.

Kim Hellberg worked as a physical education teacher in Sweden before moving into professional football management. The Middlesbrough head coach spent time teaching at a school in Norrkoping while coaching at lower-league levels, according to The Northern Echo. He previously managed IFK Varnamo in the Swedish top flight, where he guided the club to a fifth-place finish in the 2023 season.

Hellberg joined the Championship side in 2024 to lead the first team at the Riverside Stadium. He told reporters that his background in education helped him develop communication skills necessary for managing professional athletes. The 38-year-old manager noted that his path to the English game was unconventional compared to former players, per The Gazette.

Middlesbrough currently sit in the middle of the Championship table as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures. Hellberg remains focused on implementing his tactical system, which emphasizes high-intensity pressing and possession. The club continues to integrate several young players into the senior squad under his leadership.
