Chelsea captain Reece James has agreed a six-year contract extension with the Premier League club. The defender signed the new deal on Friday, which secures his future at Stamford Bridge until 2032. James joined the club's academy at the age of six and has made 158 senior appearances for the London side, according to Chelsea FC.
The 26-year-old was appointed club captain in August 2023. He has won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time in the first team. Despite recent injury struggles, the club hierarchy viewed the England international as a central figure for the future project, per The Athletic.
James expressed his commitment to the side, stating he wanted to help the team win more trophies in the coming seasons. The agreement follows a period of negotiations regarding the player's long-term status under the current ownership group. Chelsea currently sit ninth in the Premier League table following their recent 1-1 draw with West Ham United, according to the Premier League.
