Bristol City have appointed Roy Hodgson as caretaker manager after sacking Gerhard Struber. The Championship club confirmed the departure of the Austrian head coach on Friday morning. Struber left his role with the side sitting in 22nd place in the table, according to Sky Sports. The former Crystal Palace and Liverpool manager returns to the dugout at 78 years of age.
Hodgson takes over the first-team squad immediately to oversee the remainder of the league campaign. The club stated that he will lead the team as they attempt to avoid relegation to League One. Struber originally joined the Robins in 2024 but managed only three wins in his final 15 matches, per The Guardian.
Bristol City officials decided to make the change following a 3-0 defeat in their most recent fixture. Hodgson has not managed a professional side since departing Crystal Palace in early 2024. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed 17 different clubs across eight countries, according to The Athletic.
