Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson joked that British athletes would win more medals than West Ham United have ever won.

Keely Hodgkinson made light of West Ham United during a promotional event for London's bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships. The Olympic 800m champion claimed Great Britain would secure more medals during the event than the football club has won in its history. The comments came as London officially launched its proposal to bring the championships back to the London Stadium, according to The Guardian.

West Ham United moved into the former Olympic stadium in 2016 and currently hold a 99-year lease on the site. The venue hosted the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2017 World Athletics Championships. UK Athletics and London Marathon Events are leading the bid to host the biennial competition for a second time, per Sky Sports.

Hodgkinson suggested that the atmosphere at the London Stadium provides a significant advantage for domestic athletes. The British government and the Mayor of London have expressed support for the 2029 bid. World Athletics is expected to announce the host city later this year, according to Reuters.
