Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he would love Bernardo Silva to remain at the club until he finishes his career. The 31-year-old midfielder has two years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola noted that the decision regarding a potential move this summer rests with the player, according to Sky Sports.
Silva became captain of the side this season and has been a central figure in the squad since joining in 2017. Despite the manager's public desire for him to stay, Silva has previously been linked with transfers to clubs in Spain and France. City currently sits atop the Premier League table as they pursue further silverware, per the Guardian.
Guardiola stated that he wants to keep players who are happy to be at the club but confirmed Silva is an important part of the dressing room. The Portugal international has won six Premier League titles during his time in Manchester. City will not force the midfielder to stay if he expresses a desire to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
