Premier League winner Christian Fuchs has joined League Two side Newport County as a coach to help the club avoid relegation.

Christian Fuchs is working as a first-team coach at Newport County as the club fights to remain in the English Football League. The 38-year-old former defender won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016 and recently served as an assistant coach at Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer.

Newport County currently occupy 23rd place in League Two, according to the EFL. The club sits inside the relegation zone with five matches remaining in the season. Head coach Nelson Jardim added Fuchs to his backroom staff to provide experience during the final weeks of the campaign.

Fuchs made 152 appearances for Leicester City before moving to the United States in 2021, per Sky Sports. He retired from professional playing in January 2023. Newport County face a crucial fixture against Grimsby Town on Saturday as they attempt to close a three-point gap to safety. The Welsh club has lost six of its last seven league fixtures, according to Transfermarkt.
