Celtic assistant coach Mark Fotheringham telephoned Hearts manager Derek McInnes to apologise for his conduct at Tynecastle.

Celtic assistant coach Mark Fotheringham telephoned Heart of Midlothian manager Derek McInnes on Monday to apologise for his behaviour. The incident occurred during last Sunday's Scottish Premiership match at Tynecastle, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

McInnes had publicly criticised an "inexperienced coach" from the Celtic dugout following Benjamin Nygren's opening goal for Celtic. The Hearts manager was visibly angered by the celebration, describing it as "out of order" and surprising. He had stormed into the Hoops' technical area immediately after the goal.

It later emerged that Fotheringham was the coach in question. He contacted McInnes on Monday afternoon to express his regret, stating no offence was intended by his actions.

McInnes accepted the apology, noting Fotheringham was "a great lad" despite their limited acquaintance. The Hearts boss added that the matter was now concluded, allowing both clubs to move forward.
