Football

A new ranking identifies the top 10 footballers who remained at a single club throughout their professional playing careers.

The ranking of loyal players features figures who spent their entire careers at one team. Italian forward Francesco Totti leads the list after playing 786 matches for Roma across 25 seasons. Totti rejected offers from Real Madrid to remain with his home-town club until retirement in 2017, per Sky Sports.

Italian defender Paolo Maldini also features after making 902 appearances for AC Milan. Maldini won five European Cups during a professional career that spanned 24 years at the San Siro.

English midfielder Matthew Le Tissier appears in the rankings for his 16 years at Southampton. Le Tissier scored 209 goals in 540 appearances for the club, according to the Premier League. Other notable inclusions are Ryan Giggs, who won 13 Premier League titles at Manchester United, and Carles Puyol of Barcelona. These players represent a rare demographic in the modern era of frequent transfers and short-term contracts, according to ESPN.
