England manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden is not guaranteed a place in his 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup. The 25-year-old started both recent friendlies against Uruguay and Japan but failed to make an impact, according to The Independent. He played as a number 10 in the 1-1 draw with Uruguay and as a false nine during the 1-0 defeat to Japan.
Foden has struggled for regular minutes at Manchester City recently, starting only twice in the Premier League since mid-January, per The Irish Times. Tuchel noted that while the midfielder was excellent in training, he has struggled to replicate that form on the pitch. The manager stated that although he could take an out-of-form player to North America, it is not a certainty that he will do so.
With eight weeks until the final squad selection, Foden faces intense competition from Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers. The midfielder has earned 49 caps for his country but has not scored a goal since December 14, according to The Irish Times.
