Fifa has issued fines to the Nigeria Football Federation and DR Congo Football Association following crowd disturbances at matches.

Fifa has sanctioned the Nigeria Football Federation and the DR Congo Football Association following separate disciplinary breaches by supporters during World Cup play-off fixtures. The world governing body issued a fine of 150,000 Swiss francs to Nigeria. This penalty followed a pitch invasion at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja after the national team failed to qualify for the tournament, per Reuters.

Fifa also ordered Nigeria to play one future competitive home match behind closed doors. Supporters entered the field and damaged property after a 1-1 draw with Ghana. Security forces used tear gas to disperse the crowd during the incident, according to ESPN.

The DR Congo Football Association received a fine of 120,000 Swiss francs for similar order and security failures. Fifa cited a pitch invasion and the throwing of objects during their home leg against Morocco. The disciplinary committee also issued a one-match stadium closure for the Congolese side, as reported by the Associated Press.
