Fifa has fined the Israel Football Association 150,000 Swiss Francs after investigating an alleged offence of discrimination, according to Sky Sports. The governing body also issued a formal warning to the association regarding its future conduct. The decision follows a legal proposal submitted by the Palestine Football Association, which sought the suspension of Israel from international competitions.
Disciplinary proceedings were initiated in October 2024 following a report by independent legal experts. The experts reviewed claims of discrimination and human rights violations within the context of the Middle East conflict. Fifa's disciplinary committee reached its verdict after several months of deliberations and multiple delays, per Reuters.
The fine equals approximately £141,700 at current exchange rates. Fifa stated it had examined evidence regarding the participation of Israeli clubs in competitions organised by the association. The Palestine Football Association previously accused its counterpart of violating Fifa statutes. The governing body will continue to monitor the situation, according to the Associated Press.
