Portsmouth chairman Michael Eisner has described the financial state of the Championship as a catastrophe after the club reported losses.

Portsmouth chairman Michael Eisner warned that the current financial model of the Championship is a catastrophe. His comments followed the release of the club's accounts for the period ending June 2025, which showed a loss of £4,200,000. Despite Portsmouth securing promotion from League One last season, Eisner expressed concern regarding the rising costs of competing in the second tier, according to The Guardian.

The American businessman noted that many clubs are spending beyond their means to reach the Premier League. Eisner stated that Portsmouth intends to remain sustainable rather than risking the long-term future of the club. Total turnover at the south coast side increased to £17,300,000, yet the wage bill also rose significantly to £12,800,000, per Sky Sports reports.

Portsmouth currently sits in the bottom half of the Championship table. Eisner called for stricter financial regulations to prevent clubs from facing potential insolvency. He argued that the disparity in revenue between the top two divisions creates an unstable environment for owners and supporters alike.
