New Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi claims he is not better than his predecessors as he prepares to face Sunderland on Sunday.

Roberto De Zerbi said he is "not better" than previous head coaches Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor during a press conference on Friday. The Italian manager has signed a five-year contract with the north London club, according to the Evening Standard. He is the third person to lead the team this season after Frank was sacked in February and Tudor departed by mutual consent in March.

Tottenham sit 17th in the Premier League table, per NBC Sports. They currently have 30 points from 31 matches and remain only one point above the relegation zone. De Zerbi told reporters that his first priority is for the squad to show courage and attack as they fight to avoid the drop.

Spurs have not won a league fixture in 2026, according to The Guardian. Their last victory was a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on 28 December 2025. De Zerbi's tenure begins with a trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on 12 April.
