Crystal Palace Striker Mateta Wants January Transfer

Football

French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta has told Crystal Palace he wishes to leave the club during the current January transfer window.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has informed Crystal Palace of his desire to depart Selhurst Park this month. The striker has 18 months remaining on his current contract, which is set to expire in June 2026. Palace are not actively seeking to sell Mateta and would require a significant offer to consider his exit.

Aston Villa and Juventus have registered interest in the 28-year-old. Juventus reportedly agreed personal terms with Mateta but failed to meet Palace's valuation, believed to be around £35m to £40m. Mateta has scored 56 goals in 185 appearances for the Eagles, contributing to their FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs in 2025.

His request comes after captain Marc Guehi was sold to Manchester City for £20m this window. Manager Oliver Glasner has also confirmed he will leave the club in the summer. Mateta, who has three caps for France, aims to feature in their World Cup squad this summer.
