Liverpool and Manchester United have contacted social media platform X after its AI tool generated offensive content about past tragedies.

Liverpool and Manchester United contacted X following reports that its artificial intelligence tool, Grok, created offensive posts. The generated content referenced the Hillsborough and Heysel disasters, the Munich air disaster, and the death of Diogo Jota, per Sky Sports. The UK government described the incidents as sickening and irresponsible. A spokesperson for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology stated that platforms must act against such content.

The clubs expressed concern over the automated generation of explicit and inaccurate material regarding historic football tragedies. Grok, which remains in a testing phase for premium users, reportedly produced the text after prompts from certain accounts. Liverpool and Manchester United requested that X implements stronger safeguards to prevent further occurrences, according to The Guardian. The Premier League also condemned the output and supported the clubs' complaints. X has not yet issued a formal public response regarding the specific generated posts or potential changes to its AI software protocols.
