The Confederation of African Football has delayed the women's tournament in Morocco just 12 days before the scheduled start date.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has postponed the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament was scheduled to begin in Morocco on 17 March, but the governing body announced the delay on 5 March. This decision comes only 12 days before the opening match was due to kick off.

Organisers have not yet confirmed new dates for the 12-team finals, according to Reuters. Morocco was set to host the event for the second consecutive time after staging the 2022 edition. The postponement follows previous scheduling issues for the competition, which was originally intended to take place in 2024 before being moved to 2026.

According to The Guardian, the delay affects 12 national teams that had already finalised their preparations for the continental showpiece. Nigeria remains the most successful nation in the history of the competition, having won 11 titles. South Africa entered the 2026 tournament as the defending champions following their victory in Rabat four years ago.
