Forest Green Rovers defender Jili Buyabu is back in training following the birth of his daughter. The 22-year-old assisted his partner, Shante, in delivering the baby at their home on Tuesday morning, according to Forest Green Rovers. Buyabu acted after the midwife did not arrive in time for the birth.
The defender, who joined the club on loan from Sheffield United in January, followed instructions from a 999 operator during the delivery. Both his partner and daughter, Araya-Rae, are doing well after the event. Buyabu missed training on Tuesday but returned to the squad on Thursday, per Sky Sports.
Forest Green Rovers currently compete in the National League. The club confirmed the player is available for their upcoming promotion push. Buyabu has made five appearances for the side since his arrival. Manager Steve Cotterill described the circumstances as an unusual reason for a player to miss a training session, according to the Stroud News and Journal.
