Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen has confirmed that captain Barry Bannan wishes to leave the club. Pedersen stated he speaks with Bannan daily, acknowledging the midfielder's love for Sheffield Wednesday but also the "very difficult situation". The manager expressed his hope for Bannan to stay, but respected the player's position.
Bannan, aged 36, started for the Owls in their Championship fixture against Bristol City on Saturday, 24 January. He reportedly bid a teary farewell, concluding a decade-long spell at the club where he has made nearly 500 appearances.
The club remains in administration and aims to raise funds through player sales before the January transfer window closes. Bannan's contract is due to expire at the end of the current season. Championship clubs Millwall, Stoke City, and Preston North End are reportedly interested in the Scottish midfielder, alongside two Scottish Premiership sides.
