Motherwell midfielder Callum Slattery has received a four-game ban for simulation during a February match against St Mirren. The Scottish Football Association issued the retrospective punishment after Slattery went down during a tangle with Richard King, who was initially sent off. King later had his red card rescinded following an appeal. Two matches of Slattery's suspension are served immediately, while the remaining two are suspended, according to STV News.
Manager Jens Berthel Askou stated the incident should serve as a lesson for the club and the wider game. Askou argued that a culture change regarding theatrics is only possible if rules are applied with consistency across the league. He previously confirmed he spoke with the 27-year-old midfielder regarding his conduct, per The Herald. Motherwell currently sit fourth in the Scottish Premiership table as they prepare to face Falkirk. Slattery, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is the first player to receive such a retrospective ban for simulation in Scotland since 2019.
