Arsenal trophy prospects fade after two defeats

Football

Arsenal's attempt to win four major trophies in a single season ended following two consecutive losses in April competitions.

Arsenal lost successive matches for the first time this season, which ended hopes of achieving a quadruple. The north London club suffered a defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League before exiting the Champions League following a loss to Real Madrid. According to the Premier League, Mikel Arteta's squad currently sits in second place behind Manchester City in the domestic table.

The recent results mean the club can no longer win four trophies this term, per Sky Sports. Arsenal exited the FA Cup earlier this year but remained in contention for multiple honours until the recent run of fixtures. Players and staff now focus on the remaining league matches to secure the Premier League title. The club has not won a top-flight league trophy since 2004. Arteta told Sky Sports that the team must respond quickly to maintain its position in the title race. Physical fatigue contributed to the recent performances after a congested fixture schedule during March and April.
