Arsenal reached the FA Cup quarter-finals as 16-year-old duo Max Dowman and Marli Salmon made history in a narrow win at Mansfield.

Arsenal secured a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals following a 3-2 victory against Mansfield Town on Saturday. Manager Mikel Arteta introduced several senior players from the bench to overcome the League One side at Field Mill. Despite the late scare, the match was defined by academy prospects Max Dowman and Marli Salmon, who both featured at 16 years of age.

Salmon became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the competition, according to Sky Sports. Dowman also entered the record books as the youngest player to provide an assist in the FA Cup, per The Guardian. Their contributions proved decisive before Mansfield staged a late rally to threaten an equaliser.

The result ends Mansfield's run in the competition after they had restricted the Premier League side for much of the first half. Arsenal now join Manchester City and Newcastle United in the draw for the next round. The North London club continues its pursuit of a 15th FA Cup trophy this season.
