Patrick Agyemang will miss the upcoming World Cup for the United States after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon. The 25-year-old forward sustained the injury during the first half of Derby County's 2-0 win against Stoke City on Monday. He left the pitch at Pride Park on a stretcher after landing awkwardly while attempting to control the ball.
Derby County confirmed on Tuesday that the striker will undergo rehabilitation but provided no specific timeline for his return. Agyemang has scored 10 goals in 36 league appearances since joining the club from Charlotte FC in July. The injury represents a significant blow for United States coach Mauricio Pochettino, who must finalise his tournament squad by May 30.
Agyemang has earned 14 caps and scored six goals for the national team since his debut last year, according to the Independent. His absence follows a run of form that helped the Rams climb to eighth in the Championship table, per Sofascore. The World Cup begins on June 11, with the United States set to face Paraguay in its opening fixture.
